Tuesday, January 31, 6:30-8pm, Columbus Mennonite Church, 35 Oakland Park Ave.

Donald Trump is ushering in the most anti-immigrant administration in modern history. UPDATE: Disastrous Executive Orders on immigration enforcement have been issued within the past few days; we will include these Executive Orders in our discussion. In response, immigrant rights activists are relying on lessons from the Obama and Bush eras of deportations; we will be building a new resistance movement to keep immigrants safe over the next four years. The notion of “sanctuary” is key to this movement.

In this workshop, we will facilitate a conversation about the new sanctuary movement by (1.) introducing basic concepts behind immigration control, (2.) summarizing what we know about how immigration enforcement works, and (3.) proposing concrete actions for keeping immigrants safe over the next four years. There will be time for discussion and Q&A.

This workshop will be presented by Austin Kocher and Rubén Castillo Herrera and is being hosted by the Central Ohio Worker Center with help from volunteers from the Columbus United Mobilization Committee.
