Monday, October 2, 4:30-5:30pm, Hagerty Hall [Rm. 180], 1775 College Rd.
Join scholars and artists Dr. Anku Golloh and Shirley Bowen as they discuss the Frank W. Hale, Jr. Black Cultural Center’s art collection in a conversation moderated by Larry Williamson, Jr., the Hale Center’s director and curator. This panel discussion will be held in conjunction with the exhibition “Start at Home: Art from the Frank W. Hale, Jr. Black Cultural Center Collection.”
The panel will examine the broad scope of the collection from its origins to its current state as a nationally-recognized and acclaimed collection of Black art. The panelists will provide a bridge from the past to the present, from the collection’s selection of African artifacts and objects to its contemporary holdings, providing insight into how the collection came to be and where it goes next and its impacts on scholarship, community, and the artists featured within.
