Wednesday, May 6, 12noon-1:30pm, this on-line event requires advance registration

On March 9, the Montgomery County Jail Coalition hosted a Lunch ’n’ Learn addressing the poor conditions and overcrowding in the jail and different alternatives to building a new jail.

Montgomery County has hired a consultant to help it decide what should be done. An early draft of that consultant’s report recommended a new or renovated jail with 1,200 beds: a 50% increase over current use.

On May 6, we invite you to join us as we revisit this conversation.

The first half of the session we will provide updates from our conversations with elected officials and efforts to release people from Montgomery County jail in the wake of COVID-19. We will then hear from a representative from ACLU of Ohio to hear about broader decarceration efforts happening around the state of Ohio. This first half will be streamed live on Racial Justice Now Facebook Live.

The second half of the session will be for those who are interested in joining a dialogue about what we would like to see in Dayton and Montgomery County related to alternatives to incarceration and what programs/organizations already exist. To register for this session, please email <montgomerycojailcoalition@gmail.com> expressing your interest in attending.

Sponsored by Dayton Young Black Professionals, Ohio Student Association, Racial Justice Now, Miami Valley Organizing Collaborative, LEAD (Leaders for Equality and Action in Dayton), ABLE (Advocates for Basic Legal Equality), Dayton NAACP, and Kaur Restorative Solutions.

Hosted by Darsheel Kaur, ACLUOhio, Leaders for Equality and Action in Dayton, Dayton Young Black Professionals, and Ohio Student Association.
