Is there any way Kamala Harris could have won the 2024 election? Certainly. If a series of circumstances beyond her control had occurred, she might have become president. If Biden had died in February 2021, she would have served out most of his term. If Biden had died in October 2024, the outpouring of sympathy votes might have been enough to help her win the election in November. If Biden had become seriously ill and resigned in October 2024, that also might have given her a boost. Also, Biden might have resigned after Harris lost the election to let her be president and make history even if she didn't serve long.
However, none of these events happened. We can only imagine what having a woman as president might have been like because now that possibility has passed and there may never be a situation where a woman could be president again.
Possibly the most important reason why Harris lost was that there might not have been a way for her to win on her own. I believe there is a segment of the population who just will not vote for a female candidate for president no matter how good she or how bad her male opponent might be. No one will admit they did not vote for Harris because of her gender, but that may have been a factor.
We may never have a woman as president. In fact, we may never have a woman on a major party presidential ticket again. The Democrats may look back on their costly losses in 2016 and 2024 and may decide that it's not worth the risk to put a woman on a presidential ticket if she can't bring in enough of the woman's vote. There may be too many anti-woman voters out there for her to win.
The Republicans are not likely to nominate a woman either. Any Republican woman who runs again is likely to be unfavorably compared to Sarah Palin or treated badly like Nikki Haley.
Harris came the closest to becoming president, but that opportunity is lost. We can only ponder what might have been and what may be possible in the future.
