Drumstick

Tuesday, I walked into Cafe Bourbon Street. I asked the doorman about the new Cheater Slicks single. The doorman said ”We’re finishing the artwork.” The Doorman plays in Cheater Slicks.

Tuesday at Cafe Bourbon Street, people were excited. Dehd’s Jason Bella’s Accessory were playing. Dehd is from Chicago and releases music from Fat Possum. Dehd is a known band in music. Dehd has released several albums.

Bourbon Street was filled with regulars and Dehd Heads. I don’t think Dehd fans are called Dehd Heads.

Dehd is band which sequences indie pop vocals with loud noise rock elements.

Accessory is a band with various members from the Chicago music scene – Jason Bella from Dehd with members of Meat Wave, Deeper and Ulna.

Accessory took the stage and started playing. I found out that Accessory February 4th, 2025 sounded like the Velvet Underground envisioned as a 70’s psych rock band. Or a 70’s hard rock band workshopping after hearing the Velvet Underground.

Accessory aren’t metal. I wouldn’t ever watch a band who were called a Classic Rock Velvet Underground, except Nirvana. Accessory aren’t an El Dorado’s Matt Sweeney either. Accessory sounded like a people from Chicago understanding a British band who understood Chicago Blues, and Velvet Underground would sound good.

Accessory appearances – people from Chicago who were involved with Fat Possum band. Accessory appeared normal indie rockers, except their bassist appeared as if he really liked underground rap circa 2006. Except one of their drummers had long hair. I think both drummers had long hair.

Accessory didn’t sound like any band I’ve ever heard at Cafe Bourbon Street. Accessory sounded like my living room from 2018-2021. James Gang and the Velvet Underground for the next movement.

Accessory’s reverbed white noise understood the Forced Exposure catalog. Accessory sounded like the Chicago band understood rock n roll in its entirety. Accessory also sounded like the internalization of something I understood about everything in the past decade’s political climate.

Accessory from the Cafe Bourbon Street stage sounded like 2018-2021 in my living room. Accessory from the Cafe Bourbon Street also sounded James Gang and the Breeders with a VU filter.

I don’t know how many musicians Jason Bella played with at the Cafe Bourbon Street Stage. I saw two drummers.  I saw a woman keyboard player. I think there were two guitarists. I think there was a bass player. I think the bass player liked rap. I think Jason Bella played guitar and traded vocals with the women keyboard player. I mispronounced the word ethereal. Where what’s up with you? “I’m feeling ethereal.”

I didn’t say – did you look at the news?

“Donald Trump wants to deport Palestinians from Gaza. Donald Trump freed supremacists who attacked the Capitol of the United States.”

I’d hurt someone’s feelings at the beginning at another bar while denouncing government secret police. I’d said, “I understand distrust of the government, especially under extreme circumstances…” I’d said. “Still, vaccines worked.”

I then said… “Why would trust a secret police force sending people into Guantanamo?” He lied, “Vaccines didn’t work. People didn’t die from Covid.” I said, “You should’ve died from measles as a child.” His feelings were hurt. “Why would you say something so mean?” I apologized. I remembered, I don’t speak with prevaricators. I didn’t insult anyone at Cafe Bourbon Street.
