We’re infuriated to announce that the 2nd annual group cargo ride of mutual aid is back! At the end of the month, community and supporters will come together in challenge to haul supplies in support of the City’s houseless residents.
Long-time committed community organizer and activist Liz Andromeda will host Solidarity Ships on September 30, 2023 at Goodale Park. All are invited to ride with or donate supplies for us to carry, in an adventure of solidarity, community, and camaraderie.
Supported through grassroots organizing, community donations, and by Franklinton Cycleworks, Johnny Velo Bikes, Paradise Garage, and Heritage Cycles, riders will travel the approximately 8 miles from Goodale Park to old Heer Park while carrying everything on our bikes and our backs, where the cargo will be delivered to and distributed at Heer To Serve’s weekly service. Prizes will be awarded to ride participants for the categories of Most Cargo, and Most Unique.
“As the City of Columbus continues to inflict violence against its most vulnerable and marginalized residents, we will ride together against the oppression to support our houseless neighbors. Let us be clear, houselessness is a policy decision that the City continues to make, choosing to give tax break after tax break to developers while conducting camp sweeps that displace and disparage its residents who are houseless. According to the City’s Department of Development, at least $173,776 has been spent this year in ‘remediating’ encampments. Further, there is persistently a 250+ long waitlist for beds at shelters, and a lack of 54,000 affordable housing units in the city. This is outrageous, unacceptable, and a crime against humanity.”
Donations Needed:
These items are needed by our housless neighbors and will constitute the cargo we will be carrying. If you are unsure of or have any questions regarding a donation item, please reach out! Monetary donations may be made via the ticket option.
