Homebound Entrepreneurs Against DeWines has now released its second video opposing Republican Governor Mike DeWine.
Just in time for Tax Day, Homebound Entrepreneurs Against DeWines has released its second ad “Tax Hike Mike,” which takes on Governor Mike DeWine for his controversial fight to raise Ohio’s gas tax over the last few years. The PAC is led by former Libertarian candidate for governor Travis Irvine, who ran against DeWine in 2018.
Fresh off of its launch video “Meet Mike DeSwine” that debuted earlier in April, the PAC’s new video “Tax Hike Mike” slams Governor DeWine for fighting to keep Ohio’s gas taxes high, despite Ohioans still recovering from a series of economic crises. The ad features the narration of podcaster Ben Kissel and Irvine said the PAC plans to get the ads on radio and TV before May 3.
“Despite record high gas prices, crippling inflation and an economy that is still recovering from the Governor’s costly lockdowns, DeWine has shown he doesn’t stand with Ohioans,” Irvine said in a statement. “We don’t need The DeWine Crime Family keeping gas taxes high for the working people of Ohio, because let’s face it –– when Mike DeWine wins, Ohio loses.”
In 2019, DeWine fought to raise Ohio’s gas tax, a battle he barely won with the state legislature. When the global pandemic hit in 2020 –– and DeWine ordered most of the state’s economy shut down –– Ohioans were hit hard again this year when gas costs rose after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Despite the high prices, DeWine has said rolling back the gas tax would be “a mistake.”
