The Columbus Gay Men’s Chorus (“CGMC”), central Ohio’s premier TTBB vocal organization, is holding a special concert presented by its sacred ensemble, Illuminati.
Illuminati is one of the only LGBTQ+ sacred ensembles in the United States, and is presenting its annual full-length concert of sacred and spiritual music, along with songs from monthly services at houses of worship where the ensemble has been invited to perform.
Illuminati will perform their “Celestial Springs” concert on Sunday, May 18 at 2p.m. at the Lord of Life Lutheran Church, located at 2480 West Granville Road in Columbus. The concert is part of CGMC’s 35 th anniversary season. This concert is a chance for audiences to experience what Illuminati calls “Outreach” events, which occur in sacred spaces throughout central Ohio year-round. The concerts are titled specifically this way, different than “performances,” because they happen at
places of worship, often during services themselves, and present a face of the LGBTQIA+ community in a faith setting that may be different than what attendees may
expect.
“Our sacred music ensemble, Illuminati, is honored to share Celestial Springs with the community—a concert that uplifts the spirit through music rooted in faith, reflection, and renewal,” said Illuminati Artistic Director Jordan Saul. “Throughout the year, Illuminati has brought sacred repertoire to churches, synagogues, and spiritual spaces across central Ohio, and we were especially proud to represent the Columbus Gay Men’s Chorus at The Ohio State University’s Music and Sound event in February. This concert continues our mission to inspire through song, foster connection, and celebrate the sacred in all its forms.” This outreach allows the community to have a presence in these spaces, building bridges awww.cgmc.comnd opening hearts wherever they travel.
Since 1990, the Columbus Gay Men’s Chorus (“CGMC”) has been a space for LGBTQIA+ community members who love to sing in a non-auditioned, inclusive
environment. Illuminati is just one ensemble of the main chorus, which as a whole has grown in its over 30-year existence to a makeup of more than 100 members of multiple sexual orientations and gender identities, and a total of four vocal ensembles, becoming one of the largest TTBB (tenor, baritone, bass vocal range) choruses in Ohio. CGMC is a nonprofit organization, and 100% of all contributions go directly to the support of its mission:“Inviting All With Voices Raised, Lives Changed.” To purchase tickets for Celestial Springs and learn more about the chorus, please visit http://www.cgmc.com.
