On Wednesday, July 5, Ohioans United for Reproductive Rights (OURR) filed more than 700,000 signatures to place reproductive freedom on the November General Election Ballot. The ACLU of Ohio is proud to serve on the Executive Committee of this historic campaign.
Ohioans for Reproductive Freedom (of which the ACLU of Ohio is a founding member) and Ohio Physicians for Reproductive Rights, the organizations that formed OURR, are leading the effort to enshrine abortion protections in the Ohio Constitution, and today is a historic moment in our grassroots campaign.
This is a common-sense constitutional amendment to ensure that Ohioans and their families can make their own health care decisions without government interference.
Now the campaign will be just as important: educating Ohioans about this ballot measure and engaging in statewide get-out-the-vote efforts.
It's simple: when reproductive freedom is on the ballot, it wins. A majority of Ohioans support abortion access and want these healthcare decisions to be made by patients and doctors, not politicians.
