Women United For Change, a coalition of a group of nineteen organizations, has joined together to create an educational and advocacy event opportunity to learn more about legislative solutions to issues impacting women. This event will also be an opportunity to learn tips on how to effectively advocate for legislation that positively impacts women at the Ohio Statehouse.
Legislators from the Ohio General Assembly have been invited to participate in a series of three panels to discuss the issues affecting women and policy solutions – including currently pending legislation in Ohio. The event will start with The Ending Violence Against Women’s panel, which will focus on HB 392, domestic violence protections against intimate partners, and HB 76, which would redefine records kept by colleges/universities police department-opening them to the public. Women’s Health & Addiction will focus on HB 325, which would encourage pregnant women to seek treatment for addiction, and SB 33, which would require cultural competency instructions for health care professionals. Women’s Business & Economic Justice will look at SB 88, to create a tax credit for the employment of individuals who have been convicted of criminal offenses, and SB 68, require health insurers to cover contraceptives and to prohibit employment discrimination on the basis of reproductive health decisions. They will also look at tax credit-employ individuals convicted of crimes, paid family and medical leave and equal pay for equal work for women.
