Tuesday, April 25, 6:30pm, First Unitarian Universalist Church, 93 W. Weisheimer Rd.

For-profit, corporate-run charter schools have been milking public education budgets for years, paying executives huge salaries, making large donations to government officials and providing, in many cases, sub-standard education or little education at all. In Ohio alone, $10 billion has been paid to charter schools since 2000 out of the Public Education Funding system.

Large privately-owned for-profit corporations have lobbied their way into the educational system, donating vast sums to legislators, getting themselves classified as “Public Schools,” and operating, in many cases, without accountability and oversight.

With a new U.S. Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos, publicly supporting the charter school system, here’s your opportunity to learn more about this under-reported challenge to a potentially excellent public education system.
