Thursday, May 11, 11:30am-1pm, YWCA Columbus, 65 S. Fourth St.

Dynamic and passionate speaker Tara Allison shares her powerful story of choosing to transition to a woman from a man instead of reaching for the gun. She offers personal insights to the current debate about public gendered bathrooms and who counts as a woman while celebrating the right to be you.

In 1987, Tara received her undergraduate degree in Marine Engineering from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis. Following graduation, she served as a Commissioned Officer in the U.S. Navy. After being honorably discharged, Tara worked as a nuclear engineer for over a decade. She is a licensed Professional Engineer. In 2005, she graduated from Capital University Law School, cum laude, and became a practicing lawyer in the areas of domestic/family law, LGBT law, contract law, construction law, and civil litigation. Having spoken throughout the state, Tara is an active public speaker on LGBT-related issues.

The EmPower lunches dish up thought-provoking discussions of current issues facing women of all backgrounds. Guest speakers share their passion for interrupting discrimination in all of its forms, leaving you with food for thought and inspiration to become an ally in creating social change.
