Matthew McCrae is our featured Glass Axis member!See his pop-up exhibition at Glass Axis Gallery now through April 24. There will be an artist reception on Friday, March 26, 6-8pm.

Matthew got his start at Glass Axis by taking an Ornament class. After that one experience, he was hooked. He was 12 years old when he started his journey with glass art by learning to melt and shape glass on a torch. He waited patiently until he could move over to the hot shop. At age 13, he started taking private lessons to learn how to blow glass.

Matthew is now 17, a junior at Hilliard Bradley High School. He is creating his own glass pieces while continuing to learn and expand his skills through the instructors, members, and visiting artists at Glass Axis. Matthew also has a passion for photography and media arts. He works with the art teachers at school to broaden his skills and develop new ones. Matthew’s goals for the future are to bring his two passions together to form a career.
