Tuesday, March 4, 1-4pm, Thompson Library [on front of the William Oxley Thompson statue on the east side of the building], 1858 Neil Ave.

Hundreds of students, faculty, staff, and community members will gather to protest the “Higher Education Destruction Act,” otherwise known as Senate Bill 1 (S.B. 1). The rally will demand the rejection of S.B. 1, which threatens academic freedom, shared governance, and the future of public higher education in Ohio.

S.B. 1 poses a significant threat to Ohio’s public higher education system by undermining faculty governance, limiting academic freedom, and imposing political agendas on university curriculums. This protest aims to mobilize the OSU community and to send a clear message to state lawmakers: “Just Say No to SB 1!”

This event is being Organized by AAUP-OSU [University Professors chapter at Ohio State] and OSA (Ohio Student Association), with participation from students, faculty, staff, and allies in higher education.

The American Association of University Professors chapter at Ohio State (AAUP-Ohio State) is the advocacy chapter for Ohio State faculty across all ranks. We strive to ensure just working conditions and promote values of institutional transparency, academic freedom, and shared governance. Our organization is also active in reclaiming higher education as an affordable and equitable public good. We welcome alliances with staff and students working toward similar goals.

The Ohio Student Association is a statewide grassroots organization anchored by student-led chapters on college campuses across Ohio that organize issue campaigns to fight for racial, economic, and educational justice.

Hosted by American Association of University Professors at Ohio State and Ohio Student Association.
