Tuesday, November 17, 12:10-1:15pm, OSU Moritz School of Law [Drinko Hall] [William B. Saxbe Law Auditorium], 55 W. 12 Ave.; or 5-6pm, Capital University Law School [Annex] [Rm. A-122], 303 E. Broad St.
Thomas Linzey will talk about communities across Ohio that are beginning to defy state and federal law by banning fracking for natural gas and pipelines; and how their work is the beginning of a community rights movement in Ohio and the United States. Linzey will talk about how the current structure of law divests communities from being able to decide their own futures and how their constitutional right to local, community self-government has been ignored by both the state legislature and the Ohio courts. He will talk about how Ohio communities have created the Ohio Community Rights Network and how that Network is now working to change the Ohio Constitution to guarantee the right of self-government to all Ohioans.
Thomas Linzey is an attorney and the Executive Director of the Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund [CELDF], a nonprofit law firm that has provided free legal services to over five hundred local governments and non-profit organizations since 1995.
Sponsored by Columbus Community Bill of Rights.
Note: those who plan to attend the 5-6pm event at the Capital University Law School must RSVP in advance by e-mailing the Columbus Community Bill of Rights at ColumbusBillofRights@gmail.com.
