Today’s program: screening of film “Selma

Selma is a 2014 British-American historical drama film based on the 1965 Selma to Montgomery voting rights marches led by James Bevel, Hosea Williams, Martin Luther King, Jr., and John Lewis. The marches were met by tear gas and beatings by state troopers, local police, and white community members. More than fifty civil rights activists were hospitalized as a result of the violence on Bloody Sunday. More than forty years after Selma, the voting rights that Martin Luther King Jr. and other civil rights activists had fought for and won back then are under attack.
