Today’s program: a screening of the film “The 800 Mile Wall” (2012, 90 minutes)
“The 800 Mile Wall” highlights the construction of border walls along the US-Mexico border and their effect on migrants trying to cross to the US. When this film was made, over 5,000 migrant bodies have been recovered in US deserts, mountains, and canals. Unofficial reports from the time put the death toll as high as 10,000 human beings. The film illustrates the results of the earlier border policies that have been built upon by the current administration and describes some policy prescriptions. We’ll discuss those policy ideas in light of today’s situation.
