Saturday, July 18, 10am-11:30am, this on-line event requires advance registration
Join Ohioans to discuss two issues central to each and every person and living thing in our state: our healthcare system and our environment.
In the hands of Big Money, each is now dominated by powerful industries whose sole purpose is to maximize profits regardless of the harm and destruction they leave in their wake. Stopping behemoth corporations from destroying Ohioans’ health and natural resources requires building a real democracy in our state where the people, not Big Money, decide policies. Fortunately, we already have much of the groundwork for monumental reform due to years of grassroots efforts.
On Saturday, July 18, we will learn how to put healthcare and the environment back in the hands of the people, where they belong, from two of Ohioans leading experts in their respective fields.
• Debbie Silverstein, Statewide Director of Ohio’s Single Payer Action Network (SPAN), will lay out a plan to ensure healthcare for all Ohioans. Once enacted, the comprehensive plan will provide far better care for far less cost while providing jobs and training during the transition.
• Markie Miller, Organizer of Toledo for Safe Water, will describe the improbable journey of a small group of local people to established the first Rights of Nature initiative in the U.S. Backed by the people of Toledo, attracting global attention, and startling corporations into taking action to resist the rights of both Nature and of The People, these intrepid citizens continue to fight for Lake Erie.
A question-and-answer period will follow each presentation.
This program also invites dialogue about solutions, including
• the power of local communities standing up for real democracy, and
• a constitutional amendment to abolish the concepts that corporations are people and that money is speech.
