This month’s program: “Fixing an election system that polarizes our society”
Drew Spencer explains how Congress has become uncompetitive, polarized, and unfairly skewed because of the exclusive use of “winner-take-all” forms of voting; he then presents the solution in the form of fair representation voting (American forms of proportional representation), which also lessens the spoiler-effect.
Drew Spencer heads the legal department at http://www.fairvote.org/ . Additionally, Drew contributes to work around ranked choice voting, primary elections, election administration, and the Voting Rights Act. He and Rob Richie have co-authored two law review articles arguing for the use of ranked choice voting in legislative elections. He has also helped draft and submit amicus curiae briefs in cases concerning voting rights, primary elections, and ballot access.
Join us at 11:30am for pizza in the meeting room; the meeting begins at 12noon.
