We've marched, we've called, we've written, we've donated, we've knitted...or maybe we've done all or none of these things. Now let's read! We can keep the spirit of the historic #womensmarch alive with a monthly book group. Our first book is The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness by Michelle Alexander.

Don't have time to read the whole thing? Here's an article by the author describing the topic: http://prospect.org/article/new-jim-crow-0

Not a big reader? Watch the documentary "13th" by Ava DuVernay, available on Netflix. Here's the trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V66F3WU2CKk

Don't have a Netflix subscription? Watch the author's Tedx Columbus talk here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQ6H-Mz6hgw

We'll share the location--or perhaps multiple locations, to keep the our conversations small and inviting--depending on our numbers, so please RSVP. Also, wherever you are, feel free to organize your own book group for that weekend, or read along with us on social media. To join the virtual book group, post your thoughts or reactions about the book in the events discussion page here (posts will be moderated for approval), and/or share a pic of yourself with the book and where you're joining us from!

Looking forward to reading with you!

*Update 1/24: We will meet in the Linden library Meeting room, 2223 Cleveland Ave.. Looking forward to seeing you there!

*Update 1/25: We have grown, and so we've booked another meeting room: Meeting rooms 1, 2, and 3 at the Northern Lights Branch library, 4093 Cleveland Avenue. At both locations, we will be breaking out into small groups to discuss the book (about 8 or 10 people each).
