Last year, dozens of faith leaders gathered on the steps of City Hall to call on Mayor Ginther and Safety Director Pettus to create a fair and equitable work environment within the Columbus Police Department. Black women officers’ stories of discrimination, intimidation and retaliation at the hands of their fellow officers moved us to tears and outrage.

Next Tuesday, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s, 90th birthday, clergy and community leaders will lift our voices for equality and dignity for all, especially the black women in our community who have sworn to serve and protect.

Join Melissa McFadden, a police officer acting as a private citizen, along with the faith leaders guiding this effort, Rev. Dr. Tim Ahrens of First Congregational Church and Rev. Dr. Jeffrey P. Kee of New Faith Baptist Church of Christ, and many more, on Tuesday morning, January 15, at 10:30am, at the Washington Gladden Social Justice Park at the northeast corner of Cleveland Ave. and E. Broad St.

Dr. King laid down his life for our nation’s public servants. The garbage collectors he visited in Memphis before his assassination were also people serving their city who had been in need of equality and dignity.

Let’s honor Dr. King’s life and legacy as we continue to struggle together for justice and equality.
