Adequate representation of diverse populations in research is a moral imperative as a matter of social justice, scientific integrity, and engendering public trust. There has been a recent push in the United States to increase the representation of minorities in clinical trials and social science research. This panel will gauge how we are doing, what challenges must still be addressed, and what strategies researchers can take to ensure that study populations reflect real-world demographics.
Panelists:
• Martin Mendoza, Director for the Division of Policy and Data, Office of Minority Health at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
• Arati Maleku, MSW, PhD Assistant Professor, College of Social Work, The Ohio State University
