Tuesday, August 31, 6:30-8pm, this on-line event requires advance registration

Cuyahoga County Progressive Caucus and ACLU of Ohio are co-hosting this event as part of their “Civic Action Tuesdays” events.

Melekte Melanku from ACLU of Ohio will be joining us to talk about a rare good thing that may be coming from the Ohio General Assembly: Bail reform and what you can do to help.

Cash bail, also known as money bond, effectively creates a two-tiered system of justice in which people who can afford their release go home to their families, and those without financial resources are forced to unnecessarily suffer behind bars. This system doesn’t promote public safety; it simply allows some people to buy their release, regardless of what threat they may pose. Bail reform is needed to end the practice of wealth-based detention, bring Ohio’s courts into compliance with the United States Constitution, save public funds, and truly promote public safety.

Join the ACLU of Ohio and the Cuyahoga County Progressive Caucus for an overview of Senate Bill 182 and House Bill 315 and a step-by-step guide to submitting testimony on these critical bills.
