Next week, the Ohio Senate will take the first steps towards completely outlawing abortion with a hearing on Senate Bill 123. The proposed bill would outlaw all abortions in Ohio if the U.S. Supreme Court were to issue a ruling overturning Roe v. Wade.
Just last week, an abortion case from Mississippi was added to the U.S. Supreme Court’s calendar for December 1, 2021 and a 6-week ban is now in effect in Texas with multiple court cases filed to challenge it. A ruling against abortion rights originating from either state could “trigger” Senate Bill 123 to go into effect, immediately outlawing all abortion care in the state. Senate Bill 123 is a dangerous and reckless bill that will harm Ohioans, especially those most at risk, young people, BIPOC folks, and transgender and gender non-conforming individuals. This bill must be stopped.
This hearing is free and open to the public. Only the bill's sponsor will be allowed to testify during a bill's first hearing, but you can join our team in the audience to show your opposition. The hearing video will also be streamed online.
