Monarch butterfly

I was just thinking -- I haven’t seen a single monarch butterfly in my garden this year. And I’m betting I’m not the only one. Monarch populations have plummeted by more than 80% in the last two decades, and toxic pesticides are a key driver of this decline. Take action now.

Glyphosate -- aka Bayer-Monsanto’s Roundup -- is wiping out milkweed, the only food source for young monarchs, and pushing this iconic pollinator toward extinction. And researchers have found this toxic weedkiller can impede the growth of bee larvae and impact bees’ ability to navigate and find food.

But people can still go to Lowe’s or Home Depot today and buy Roundup right off the shelf -- putting monarchs, bees, and other wildlife in your community at risk. That’s why I’m counting on you to send a message to Lowe’s and Home Depot and demand they take this toxic pesticide off store shelves.

Roundup is harming more than just monarchs -- 93% of endangered species are negatively affected by the toxic pesticide. Studies show that chronic exposure to glyphosate causes reproductive harm in both aquatic and land-dwelling animals. And it puts our health at risk, too. It’s been linked to cancer, kidney and liver disease, and other serious health problems.

Despite all the evidence showing how harmful glyphosate is, it’s still sold to consumers like you. Bayer-Monsanto is raking in profits while putting the health of people and pollinators at risk. And Lowe’s and Home Depot are allowing this to happen by continuing to stock their shelves with Bayer-Monsanto’s toxic weedkiller. It’s time for the major garden retailers to step up and take action to put people and the planet before pesticide industry profits.
