Thursday, May 12, 6-8pm, WOSU Public Media, 1800 N. Pearl St.

The “Democracy In Action” award is given annually to an individual and/or organization who has made outstanding contributions to the civic life of Central Ohio.

In 2022, the League of Women Voters of Metropolitan Columbus will be honoring the crucial role of strong local journalism. Amplifying democracy and civic engagement in the Central Ohio community, journalists consistently provide accurate, factual and complete information to the public about the democratic process.

Longtime Ohio Statehouse reporter, Lee Leonard, will receive a “Lifetime Achievement Award” for decades of reporting for The Columbus Dispatch. We are also honoring the professional journalists who comprise the Ohio Legislative Correspondents Association (OLCA), for their dedication to nonpartisan reporting on State of Ohio government issues.

Jasmine Roberts-Crews, Lecturer at the OSU School of Communications, will be our keynote speaker. Ann Fisher from WOSU Public Media will then host a “round table” discussion featuring Darrel Rowland, President of OCLA, Lee Leonard, and Mike Curtin, former Editor, The Columbus Dispatch.
