Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) is a low cost, rapid implementation, high-impact mode. What is it? Why is it relevant for your city? How to get it done?
Every other Tuesday, fascinating guests will present captivating stories of cities in 20-30 minutes. The aim is to share good practices that will help all to create affordable, equitable, and sustainable cities. Then, Gil and other participants will have a dialogue with the guests. It’s a way of giving back from having been very fortunate to have worked in over 350 different cities in all continents. This event is always free, always interesting, and always useful.
Host: Gil (Guillermo) Penalosa, a Canadian urbanist who was the runner-up in the 2022 Toronto mayoral election to Mayor John Tory. Originally from Colombia, he was Bogotá’s commissioner of parks and recreation from 1995 to 1998 and oversaw the popularization of the Ciclovía open-streets event.
Guest: Dario Hidalgo, Professor of Transport and Logistics, Universidad Javeriana, Bogotá, Colombia, and former CEO of Bogota’s BRT Transmilenio who has advised multiple city systems around the world.
