Learn how you can help stop fracking in Ohio state parks.

Salt Fork State Park — Ohio’s gem of state parks — is under attack. An oil company — we don’t know which one but have an educated guess — has applied to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources to surround the state park with 16 frack pads that will frack an incredible 281 parcels under the park.

If you have never visited Salt Fork, or haven’t visited in a while, now is the time. On Saturday, July 1, at 12noon, we will be holding a Rally to Save Salt Fork State Park. Join us at Shelter #1 to hear speakers and music and to let everyone know that Ohio’s beloved Salt Fork is the oil industry’s #1 target.

Shelter #1 is near Camp Beach, next to the nature center. The event is expected to last about an hour. After that, you are welcome to swim, hike, or just relax. There’s also a nearby dog park. Feel free to bring swimwear, hiking poles, plenty of water, and don’t forget sunscreen. It’s likely to be hot.

Salt Fork is Ohio’s largest state park at 20,000 acres. The beach is about two miles into the park from the entrance. The spacious lodge — which has a large indoor and outdoor swimming pool, a full-service restaurant and coffee shop, and tennis, volleyball, and basketball courts — is about seven miles in. The park has a full-service golf course, large lakes for boating and fishing, and a large trail system, including a bridle trail, horse camp, and archery camp. All of these uses are incompatible with fracking.

Besides the rally, we will be passing out fliers and letting people there know what is proposed to happen to Salt Fork and what people can do about it. We will announce speaker information as we have it.
