The Interfaith Association of Central Ohio invites you to a webinar, “Redistricting Reform in Ohio: How It Went Wrong and How the ‘Citizens Not Politicians Initiative’ Will Fix It.”
Richard Gunther, PhD, will discuss gerrymandering:
• How it has damaged the quality of democracy in Ohio,
• How the unsuccessful reforms of 2015 and 2018 were thwarted,
• How the reforms to be decided by Ohio voters in November will attempt to establish fair and competitive districts in the future.
About our Speaker
Richard Gunther (PhD, University of California at Berkeley), professor emeritus of political science at The Ohio State University, is the international co coordinator of the Comparative National Elections Project. He is a recipient of Ohio State University’s awards for Distinguished University Service and a Distinguished Scholar.
Gunther is a prolific writer. He is author or editor of 15 books, most of them dealing with political parties, electoral behavior, the impact of the media on politics and transitions to democratic rule.
Gunther is very active in the Comparative National Elections Project, which, to date, has undertaken 64 national election surveys in 30 countries. He has been active in redistricting reform efforts since 2005. He is co-author of the Issue 1 amendments to the Ohio Constitution which were intended to end partisan gerrymandering for the state legislature and is a collaborator in the “Citizens Not Politicians” initiative to end gerrymandering in Ohio.
