How do people around the world define democracy? And how much do they prioritize living in a democracy, in comparison to having wealth, experiencing low crime, and other factors? Answering these questions is critical as countries face democratic backsliding, and authoritarian governments contest the value and promote alternative notions of democracy.
Join the Mershon Center in welcoming Jonathan Chu of the National University of Singapore as he discusses his recent six country experimental surveys comparing and contrasting democratic views in the United States, Italy, Egypt, India, Thailand, and Japan.
