Our right to protest is under attack—and we’re fighting back. Greenpeace USA is facing a $300 million SLAPP lawsuit from the oil giant behind the Dakota Access Pipeline – an attack to silence us and potentially destroy the organization. But this isn’t just about us. This is part of a much bigger effort by billionaires and corporations to crush dissent and rewrite the rules to serve their own greed. We’re not backing down—we’re getting louder.
That’s why we’re launching Protest on Trial: A Series for Democracy – a weekly webinar series every Thursday from February 20 to March 27 as this trial unfolds. These sessions will bring you inside updates from the courtroom and conversations with frontline activists, legal experts, and movement leaders on the broader threats and strategies to fight back—for protest, for free speech, and for democracy itself.
SESSION LINEUP
Feb 20 – Protest on Trial
Trump’s corporate allies are escalating their attack on protest, and this lawsuit is just one piece of a larger effort to silence movements and erode democracy. We’ll break down why this trial matters, how it fits into the broader fight for free speech and dissent, and what we must do to defend our rights—together.
Feb 27 – Water is Life: The NoDAPL Fight Continues
This lawsuit – which alleges Greenpeace organized Standing Rock – is a false and racist attempt to erase Indigenous leadership from this historic protest. Join us for a deep dive into the powerful history of the NoDAPL movement, the Indigenous-led resistance at Standing Rock, and how we can learn from and support the ongoing fight to protect land, water, and sovereignty.
Mar 6 – Polluters Must Pay
Billionaires and big polluters profit while our communities pay the price. From poisoned air and water to climate disasters, we’ll hear from frontline activists about the real cost of corporate power—and how we can hold them accountable.
Mar 13 – Global Lessons
The crackdown on protest isn’t just happening in the U.S. We’ll hear from international activists about how these attacks are playing out around the world—and the strategies they’re using to resist.
Mar 20 – Defending the Heart of the Movement
When we give up our power out of fear, we hand victory to those who seek to silence us. Join us for a panel discussion of movement leaders – from migrant justice to trans rights – to explore how we defend and flex our rights to build power and win. Plus, we’ll equip you with the skills to protest safely and effectively as we fight back, stay loud, and build for lasting change.
TBD – Where We Go From Here
As Greenpeace USA’s historic trial comes to a close, you’ll be the first to make sense of the verdict and its implications for the future of protest. No matter the outcome, we’ll stand united as we build an unstoppable movement for the dignity of all. The billionaires and corporations behind this attack want us to be afraid. Instead, we’re coming together.
Join us and be part of the fight to defend our movements, our rights, and our future.
