As part of our commitment to sharing actionable research in support of progressive policies, Innovation Ohio recently conducted a survey to see where Ohioans stood on President Trump and his early 2nd term actions. Our survey of 398 registered Ohio voters, conducted from February 25-27, found that despite strong backing from his core supporters, Trump’s actions are not resonating with much of the broader public.

Our survey, conducted in partnership with GrowProgess, revealed strong sentiment against Trump’s unilateral approach to funding cuts. When asked if they believe Trump should have the power to cut funding or if he should get Congress’s approval before making cuts, 60 percent of registered Ohio voters we polled believe Congress should have the final say, including large majorities of Democrats and independents.
Even 35 percent of Trump’s own voters oppose his attacks on programs approved by Congress.

While Trump’s base may continue to back him, the broader electorate in Ohio appears to be pushing back. As voters learn about Trump’s policies, his popularity falls. This makes it more difficult for him to push through his divisive agenda, creating an opportunity for progressives to prioritize the public good and ensure that decisions about critical programs remain in the hands of the people, not one unchecked individual. Innovation Ohio plans to release additional surveys in the coming weeks and months to ensure elected officials, policy makers, and influencers are in tune with the Ohio voters they represent.
