TIME SENSITIVE: Stop Ohio's SAVE Act

You may have heard about the federal SAVE Act, which would prevent millions of eligible American citizens from voting.

But there’s also an Ohio version of the SAVE Act moving through the Statehouse. It’s even more dangerous, and more likely to pass.

It’s hard to explain how unAmerican Ohio’s SAVE Act is. This bill (SB 153 and its identical twin HB 233) would stop tens of thousands (potentially hundreds of thousands) of eligible Ohio citizens from voting.

The bill would also make it much harder for Ohioans to gather hundreds of thousands of signatures to place constitutional amendments on the ballot — already an incredibly difficult task.

Republican politicians know your vote is powerful. That’s why they’re trying to stop as many people as possible from voting. Their efforts must be stopped. State government is not legitimate if you don’t have the ability to vote it in or out.

ONE citizen denied their right to vote is too many — and this bill would stop tens of thousands of citizens from voting.


SB 153 has a hearing THIS COMING TUESDAY (10/28) at 2:00 pm in the Ohio Statehouse (North Hearing Room).

YOU have the right to testify against this devastating bill (in-person or written-only).

Testimony must be submitted by Monday 10/27/25 at 2:00 pm. Use this testimony toolkit to guide you.

HOW TO submit testimony against SB 153:

  • Go to the 10/28/25 committee meeting webpage

  • Click ”upload testimony”

  • Fill out the witness information, and upload your testimony as a PDF file

    • Completing this witness information replaces the “witness slip” used by House committees

    • Testimony must be submitted by Monday 10/27/25 at 2:00 pm.

We need as many Ohioans as possible to speak out against this disgraceful legislation. I know the world is on fire, but this is is a tangible, meaningful way that we can fight for our state and for our country.

Draft Script (Remember, you’re talking to a staffer! Be polite!):

  • Hello. My name is [NAME]. I am a registered Ohio voter. I’m calling about Ohio’s version of the SAVE Act — SB 153 and HB 233.

  • This is one of the most [unAmerican / outrageous / dangerous / disturbing] bills Ohio has ever seen. It claims to be securing our elections, but it would actually prevent tens of thousands of LEGAL voters from participating in the political process.

  • [IF APPLICABLE, share your personal experience with barriers to getting documents like birth certificate, marriage license, name change proof, etc.] Ohioans should not be punished for red tape.

  • I need to be sure that Senator [SENATOR’S NAME] will not criminalize democracy. Will they help us STOP SB 153 and HB 233?

    • IF THEY AGREE WITH YOU, thank you and let them know you will be sharing their response with your friends and family

    • IF THEY AREN’T SURE, let them know you will be calling back

    • IF THEY DISAGREE, let them know you will be sharing their response publicly — and urging everyone to call them
