Catherine Deneuve

What’s it like to be the wife of a leader who forces you to live in his shadow and ignores your political advice? The President’s Wife answers that question with its feminism-informed biography of former French first lady Bernadette Chirac.

But don’t expect a sober-minded piece of historical revisionism. The film, directed and co-written by Lea Domenach, refuses to take itself too seriously, and it’s clear from the first scene that we shouldn’t, either.

As Bernadette (the legendary Catherine Deneuve) makes her way to a confessional booth for a heart-to-heart with her priest, the church choir informs us that what we’re about to see is based only loosely on reality. In fact, the singers warn us, it’s a “work of fiction.”

Still, it’s hard not to hope that what follows is least partly true, because it’s a delicious story of self-reinvention and political comeuppance.

Tuesday, April 22 @ 2:00 PM
On Tuesday, April 22, Indivisible Central Ohio is hosting a Congressional recess event outside Representative Mike Carey’s Columbus office. To date, Rep Carey has been avoiding conversations with constituents, so we will meet at his office and ask again for a meeting with Carey or his staff.

Residents of Ohio’s 15th Congressional District have logged countless calls and requests for meetings with Rep Carey or his staff, but Carey’s office has been avoiding these calls and requests. Concerned Ohioans need access to communicate directly with their elected representatives and Rep Carey and his staff are not honoring this part of their responsibilities.

During this office visit, if Rep Carey and his staff refuse to meet with constituents, Indivisible Central Ohio and constituents in Ohio’s 15th Congressional district will bring signs to show their representative they demand to be heard and will picket outside.

Members of the media are invited to attend to cover this event.

Lead organizers with Indivisible Central Ohio will be available for interviews throughout the event.

“We are Here to awaken from our Illusion of Separateness” Thich Nhat Hanh

All Palestinian are saddened by the death of Pope Francis. He spoke
repeatedly against the ongoing genocide and destructionof our people and wa
attaked for this by te Zionist movement. He kept touch with the church
inGaza regularly even from his hospital bed. He cared for people regardless
of their religion and made peace a key feature of his tenure. He built
respectful and good relations between people of all faiths in a time when
right wing white fascists are taking control of governments around the
world (Orban, Netanyahu, Trump etc). We at Bethlehem University are also
especially sad because of the fact that this university was established by
the Vatican to serve the Palestinian people in 1973.

Introduction

With Trump and his cronies in power, the climate crisis will worsen.

In a Nov. 14, 2024 post, after Trump was reelected to a second presidential term, there was good reason to worry about Trump’s plans for dealing with the climate crisis. He is a well-known climate-denier.

Here’s a few paragraphs from that post.

“Trump, a climate-crisis denier, will undoubtedly as president exacerbate the problem and give open-ended support to fossil fuel production and consumption and the industries that benefit from them. Rising emissions and the rising temperatures they produce represent an existential problem that will likely threaten to generate massive dislocations of people and threaten the survival of millions, if not billions, of people in America and around the globe.

The FAR OUT documentary film is endorsed by DR. RUTH STRAUSS who also demands the return of Abrego Garcia after he’s been disappeared to El Salvadore.

The name of this terror victim is shouted out by MYLA RESON with the warning that this could happen to any and all of us at the whim of Donald Trump.

ON ENERGY: From DOROTHY REIK we hear about SB540 which would open the door to new nukes & to kill the ability of California to control its own energy supplies.

The legendary KEVIN KAMPS warns of the gargantuan subsidies proposed to insanely re-start Michigan’s Palisades despite the exponential cost overruns already with us, and despite disturbing reports of an epidemic of cancer in a nearby golf club, indicating major radiation releases from the nearby reactor; there are “start dates” for nuclear disasters, he said, but there are no end dates.

The Amos Project’s Black Women’s Health Initiative (BWHI) will host a special town hall featuring Congresswoman Joyce Beatty on Monday, April 21 at 6:30pm. This important community event aims to address critical health issues affecting Black women in Ohio.

Congresswoman Beatty, a longtime advocate for healthcare equity and women’s health issues, will discuss recent legislative efforts and will answer questions from community members about the ongoing healthcare challenges facing Black women.

“This town hall provides a vital opportunity for direct dialogue between our community and Congresswoman Beatty on health issues that disproportionately impact black women. We encourage all interested community members to attend and participate in the important conversation.” — Joscelyn Clarke, Organizer, The Amos Project

On April 19th, the 50501 movement mobilized for a National Day of community-focused Action. State and local groups across the nation rallied an estimated four million people to participate in marches, rallies, food drives, teach-ins, mutual aid pop-ups, voter registration events and more to best meet their communities' needs.

A Day of Community Solidarity

Despite reports of heightened police and federal presence at the events, We (the People) Dissent has compiled a list of over 900 events in about 850 cities that were part of the National Day of Action. In Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, California, and Hartford, Connecticut alone, over 6,500 pounds of non-perishable food, baby supplies, hygiene products and more were collected and donated to local food banks and mutual aid organizations by our organizing teams.

My rewrite of the famous quote by Lord Palmerston regarding “interests” to have it reflect the reality of Israel and its powerful friends would go something like this: “I say that it is a narrow policy to suppose that Israel is to be marked out as the eternal ally or the perpetual friend of the United States and of enlightened western values. By design, Israel has no eternal allies. Its interests are indeed perpetual but center on its own success at aggressively portraying itself always as the victim while also advancing its own tribal interests.” I admittedly tend to think often about the enemy we of the western Christian tradition have been nurturing at our breast for decades in a spirit of tolerance, a viper that is only setting out to corrupt and then destroy us, manifest particularly at this time of year, when the life and death of Jesus Christ ought to be rightly celebrated. Alas, in today’s Israel what is truly remarkable is the government’s open suppression of Christian identity and worship without any complaint coming from Washington or from the other nominally Christian nations of Europe.
