In response to the Burma (Myanmar) government backed genocide against the Rohingya Muslim minority in that nation, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, is urging Americans of all faiths and backgrounds to take part in the following actions to increase American and international pressure on the Burmese government.

  • Tell Congress “No Military Aid to Burma:” Call your Senators and ask them to co-sponsor and support a bipartisan Senate amendment (SA 607) to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) of 2017 that would cut off U.S. military assistance to Burma’s army.
    • Call the Congressional Switchboard at (202) 224-3121 to connect with your state’s senate offices, request to speak with the staffer responsible for foreign policy, tell the staffer or leave a message requesting support for the “Senate Amendment 607 to the NDAA because you ‘OPPOSE’ U.S. military aid to Burma’s army,” making sure to leave your name, address, and a call back number.
  • Khatibs (Islamic prayer leaders) and Imams (Islamic religious leaders) address the Rohingya Muslim crisis during Jummah (Friday) prayers: The Burma Task Force USA has developed khutba talking points for Muslim community and religious leaders and activists to reference when addressing the responsibility of Muslims to stand up for justice during this crisis.
    • Note: Talking points can easily be adapted to any audience outside the Muslim community.
  • Contact the U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson [phone: 202-647-2663] and U.S. Ambassador to Burma Scot Marciel [phone: (95)-(1) 536-509] and request that the United States government:
    • Demand the Myanmar government put an immediate stop to all military-and-mob-led violence targeting the Rohingya Muslim minority.
    • Demand the Myanmar government permit United Nation’s investigators to inspect affected Rohingya areas in Myanmar.
    • Ensure that governments of Myanmar and Bangladesh ensure the free flow of emergency relief aid to Rohingya Muslims.

CAIR is a member of The Burma Task Force USA. CAIR is America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
