Counter Protest: OSU Needs Planned Parenthood
March 9 - 8 AM - 4 PM
South Oval, OSU campus
The day after International Women's Day, the Pro-Life Club at OSU is bringing Students for Life of America to campus on their "We Don't Need Planned Parenthood" tour (more info here: http://www.wedontneedpp.com/). Their goal is to get Planned Parenthood defunded and redirect their funding to community health centers that don't provide abortion.
Pro-Choice campus organizations like Fight4HER Columbus/OSUGlobal Health Initiative OSUOSU femUNITY, and URGE: Unite for Reproductive and Gender Equity, OSU Chapter know that the Hyde Amendment already restricts all federal funding to abortion, and that defunding Planned Parenthood would only block patients who rely on public health care from accessing it at Planned Parenthood. We also recognize that LGB and (particularly) trans folks are far less likely to get the care they need from these health centers, especially considering PPNYC has started providing HRT. Finally, we want to show our support for keeping abortion safe and legal, having heard the horrific stories of pre-Roe v. Wade "care".
Bring signs if you can, and of course, invite your friends! We want to be a visible opposition to this group, both in-person and on social media.Fight4HER Columbus/OSU will be collecting photo petitions when possible, but you can come at any time, take a picture with a sign and make it your profile pic for the day OR use your photo petition from earlier in the week!

Building a Militant Women's Movement Today
March 9- 7 PM - 8:30 PM
St. Stephen's Episcopal Church and University Center
30 W Woodruff Ave, Columbus, Ohio 43210
The Women's March on Washington against the attack on women's rights turned out to be the biggest mobilization of all-time. Since the high points of the women's movement of the 60s and 70s, such a mass demonstration for women's rights hasn't been seen. But our conditions have changed since then: Trump is making the attack on the working class so blatant, people are organically holding close to the mentality of "an attack on one is an attack on all." Simply put, people feel compelled to resist.
It is clear that a feminist movement is absolutely necessary, now more than ever. We need a feminist movement that is inherently pro-working class, anti-racist, anti-imperialist, and inclusive of disabled, trans, and undocumented women.
Join the ISO on the day after International Working Women's Day for a reading and discussion group. We will discuss why a combative feminist movement is necessary at this time, what is needed for such a movement, and the feminist organizing going on in our city and on-campus.
For this week's meeting, we will read and discuss two articles. One, recently featured in Jacobin, on the March 8 International Women's Strike, and another, featured in Socialist Worker, discusses the lessons of recent protests in defense of Planned Parenthood. Sponsored by the International Socialist Organization.
