Women on stage at a concert with lots of smoke

Charli XCX walked out ointo the stage wearing a wedding veil. The wedding attire conjured Madonna’s “Like A Virgin” for a second. Queen Brat then said, “Columbus, Ohio. Will You Marry Me?”

During the evening. Charli kept an intimate dialogue during stage banter as if every individual in the packed arena were Charli’s kindred spirit who understood with the deepest emotional connection.

Charli XCX rotated sets with Australian pop singer Troy Sitivan. Charli took the stage with Brit wave rapper-singer ShyGirl. Charli intertwined a marriage proposal for our city while performing 365’s Remix.

One of my hobbies before Saturday’s show was finding Chali XCX rap songs. Everyone I knew cracked up that Charli XCX recorded with Ed Banger’s Uffie. Uffie, and Balam ACAB’s involvement with Charli XCX sorta changed a perception…

Should Charli XCX be a Taylor Swift/Britney Spears star or someone who didn’t quit once Daft Punk and Justice fans couldn’t use Kanye West as their pop sensation.

Ed Banger Records might be Kanye’s political stances biggest casualty.

I don’t know if Uffie is making a comeback. She can’t sing like Charlie XCX. Well, Uffie did feature with a famous singer.

Pop superstars sing. This isn’t about bringing Uffie down.

Our intent is lifting Charlie XCX up. Nationwide Arena was packed with BRATS. Are Charli XCX fans BRATS, or is BRAT the name of the movement?

Although Charli XCX is a star, she didn’t seem too big for reality. Charli XCX traded bars with Shy Girl who opened.

ShyGirl combines London club beats with an American southern rap brashness. ShyGirl performed THICC, Nike, Freak and other songs as the Sweat opener. Shygirl was like if Denzel Curry and Mike Will Made it listened to Oasis as a young lass.

ShyGirl provided Nationwide Arena with an edge where you didn’t feel like you eventually were being subjected to boring EDM, and generic pop music. Shygirl allowed Troy Sitivan’s Twink Bieber a clubber feel.

After Charlie XCX proposed and rapped in underwear and veil, BRATS responded with screaming, roars and dancing.

Shygirl had set the vibe.

Charlie XCX rapping was Lady Sovereign and Dizzy Rascal. Pussy Riot’s rapping worked because of Russian accents. I think the solution for white women rappers: Slick Rick. White women should study Slick Rick, Monie Love and Dana Dane’s British debonair.

Charli’s mom: Ugandan Indian Muslim, Charli’s father: Scottish. Indians are 1 percent of the Ugandan population. I don’t know Charli’s opinion on Idi Amin.

I know finding Slick Rick influence would nurture white women rapper’s storytelling, and smug confidence. Charli is bi-racial. I don’t know Charli’s familiarity with late 80’s NYC rap. Slick Rick is one of the most influential rappers. White women can work within the late 80’s aesthetics of Paid In Full rap.

The late 80’s foundation for Nas and Jay-Z caliber rappers are found in the following rappers:

  • Kool G  - Rhyme patterns and Street Tales
  • Rakim - Technical ability, vocal clarity while rapping about street, and metaphysical ideas of existence
  • KRS - One – Rap confidence that’s street, and conscious
  • Big Daddy Kane – Technical, Conscious, arrogant, and a Drake sex symbol. BDK took sexual photos with Madonna
  • LL Cool J – Technical, Brash, and a sex symbol
  • Public Enemy – Conscious with authority.
  • Slick Rick – Rapped with an English accent, Arrogant and detailed story telling

Slick Rick’s style seems like the most accessible for white women’s voices. If I was a white woman rapping I would look at Slick Rick and Monie Love. Monie Love’s English voice works organically with Monie’s English sounds.

Slick Rick’s opus The Great Adventure of Slick Rick does contain misogyny which assisted in NWA and 2 Live’s audience. I’m sure women could figure out ignorant songs dissing men after developing their craft. Charli XCX’s rapping sounding like Kano solved a most stifling subplot.

Did I mention MC Lyte’s “Lyte As A Rock?”

10 Percent Diss,” and “Paper Thin” are as hard as Audio 2 Two’s “Top Billin” with added technical and sophisticated lyricism. I said Slick Rick because emulating him might make a natural Monie Love/MC Lyte delivery.

I need a Skepta/Charli XCX joint.

Charli finished the first segment with 360 and Van Dutch. Charli XCX switched from the marriage sweetness into an arrogance.

“COLUMBUS, Don’t Play With Me Bitch.” The Queen commanded respect.

Troy twinked for 3 more songs which avoided aversions of techno music. I’m in a queer club. Ce La Vie. Charli XCX returned for Club Classics, Unlock it, Sympathy and Guess. Troy gave Charli a short break with Bloom..

British Brat returned with SpringBreakers. I didn’t know Harmony Korine’s movie starring Gucci Mane would rock an arena in 2024. I laughed while Charli sung about killing people and DUIs. We returned into teen superstar singer mode with “It’s confusing being a Girl.”

I’m contemplating this in a Sevigny context.

Troy twinked again. Pretty girls know twinks. I respected Sweat’s premise. I’m at the Union chatting with women and their gay friends.

Charli returned for Everything Is Romantic, Speed Drive, and Apple. Troy twinked and supported Charli. She made another costume change and reappearred for 365, and VROOM. Troy and Charli rocked 1999. The show climaxed into frenzy

I realized my lack of familiarity with Charli XCX’s catalog allowed an appreciation of The British Brat’s performance and nuances.

I heard Dizzy Rascal, stadium EDM, gay club music, and pop superstar in a unique package.

She switched from the marriage banter from foul mouthed Brat boasting and back. “Columbus. You’re adorable. Columbus. I’m in love with you. I’m so excited I’m marrying you.”

While I was thinking about liking this woman who combined Springbreakers with Skepta, Charlie floored me. I didn’t know 2012 Icona Pop’s, “I Love It” was Charlie XCX. It’s kinda like meeting a new person and then finding out one of biggest songs in a decade was by them.

“I DON’T CARE.”

I felt elation about a remembering life pre-Trump. People were fun and cool. Techno was tolerable because it wasn’t the rule of the land. You found pretty girls, and kind queers. If you heard techno…Ce La Vie.

I realize the importance of Kamala Harris being proclaimed BRAT. I don’t know if I’ve ever felt so excited about a pop song from 2012. I felt an optimism because a woman was yelling, “I DON’T CARE.” Charli XCX’s proposal seemed sincere. We’ve all lived in a proximity.

After the Sweat concert, I debated between walking into OG Betty’s or riding the bus. I decided I didn’t feel like paying for a Lyft. I could find a pub near my flat. I stood at Nationwide Plaza’s COTA stop with a bunch of BRATS.

Charli’s Columbus culture wasn’t just women showing boobs and butts while demanding orgasms.

I walked around the city. BRAT was everywhere. People were wearing shirts like OSU Buckeyes were the OSU BRATS.

I stopped in Kafe Kerouac. BRATS packed the tables with discussions of the concert they loved. BRATS were community radio listeners. I told them SWEAT Tour invited me because of Wes Flexner’s Rock N Roll Show 7pm Wednesdays.
BSA Hip Hop 7pm Thursdays
Sexy Curfew 11 pm Saturdays

I wasn’t attempting a namedrop or high posting. I wanted a BRAT aware Charli included their reality. I said "if this adds into Charli's Aura...I attended because of radio shows. I intended that as compliment of Charli XCX personal touch.

I walked over towards CLUB 20. Club 20 is a gay bar. BRAT packed CLUB 20. I know because everyone was wearing BRAT merch. I sat and listened while women and queers declared a deep personal relationship with Charli XCX. I haven’t seen a musical movement which included so many women , and gay people in years…

9-20-2024 Charlie XCX owned Columbus, Ohio.
