Unless you’ve recently been abducted by ICE you already know about Columbus City Councilmember Emanuel Remy and the $84,700 paid to his staff member for his verbal abuse (our tax dollars mind you, not his). He has lost the trust of the people he is supposed to represent, but ran unopposed on November 4 thanks to the gerrymandered “At-Large” voting system where all competition is crushed without mercy… but you’re missing something.

One of the last independent journalists in Columbus, D.J. Byrnes AKA “The Rooster,” broke the story before the November 4 election. If you subscribe to his online news you would know about it (you should). Would that news have affected the Vogel vs. Ross District 7 race? Yes, it would have.

So what did all of the corporate-owned media outlets do about it? Didn’t they do their civic duty to inform the people of Columbus all about what a terrible person Emanuel Remy has been?

Nope. They did nothing. They sat on the story for after the election.

All of the corporate-owned news sources in Columbus followed their overlords by ignoring the most important story of the election cycle. And the final result was that Ross won the election by a narrow margin (only 11 percent of citizens voted and Vogel won all of District 7). The story would have had an impact on the election and the future of our city, but the “news media” did nothing. It’s the most important story of the election cycle that nobody is talking about.

Columbus local mainstream media is officially dead.

The complete and absolute corporate takeover of our local media has had negative results for the city, but positive results for the rich and powerful. Ross will take her elevated seat in City Council in January (in addition to Remy who has still not apologized to the woman he abused) and as expected she will do nothing. That’s why she was nominated by the corporate democrats; to serve the developer-industrial complex and soak out as much money from the city as possible. She will be featured in lots of photo opportunities (none that include the homeless of course) and will also keep her current six-figure job as a city attorney as a bonus. Her pension will continue to grow and her health benefits will improve even better than before.

We are the pawns of the developer-industrial complex whose only job is to exist to fund their greed. And, no matter how much money they have they will still be proud to let the homeless live in tents under the freeway. This is Columbus. This is the greatest story that will never be told – how our local media failed to do their jobs by just telling us the truth.

It’s a sad day to live in Columbus, unless you are rich and powerful.

Sin lugar a dudas.

¿Y qué hicieron los noticieros comerciales a respecto? ¿No cumplieron con su deber cívico de informar los columbuseños del monstro que es Emanuel Remy?

Pues no. No se molestaron a hacerlo hasta después de la certificación del sufragio.

Todos y cada uno de las fuentes de noticias de Columbus acataron a las instrucciones de hacer caso omiso a la nueva medular del periodo electoral, conduciendo a la victoria magra de Ross, donde apenas once por ciento del electorado sufragaron y Vogel captó el Distrito 7 entero. A pesar del impacto que el hilo tendría, los mal llamados “medios” no levantaron un dedo. Es la mayor noticia jamás contada por nadie.

Es oficial: los medios locales están muertos.

La conquista contundente y absoluta de los medios columbuseños por las corporaciones trajo consecuencias negativas para la ciudad, aunque positivas para los ricos y poderosos. Ross tomará su flamante posesión del escaño en el Consejo Municipal en enero —junto con Remy que no se ha disculpado a la mujer que victimizó— y no se anticipa ninguna actividad de su parte. Es por ello que los Demócratas corporativos la candidatearon: para servir los intereses de la confabulación desarrolladora industrial chupando tanta sangre que sea posible. Los reflectores lo rodearán (sin ningún indigente, desde luego) y de pilón conservará su despacho como abogada por la ciudad que le reditúa un salario que ascienda a cientos de miles por año. Se ensanchará su pensión y sus prestaciones de salud van a mejorar.

Como nos recuerda Noam Chomsky: “quién controla los medios controla la mente”.

Somos los peones de la confabulación desarrolladora industrial que sólo existe para enriquecerse. Independiente de cuánto engullen, siempre ufanarán a dejar los indigentes debajo de los puentes. Así es Columbus. Así es la mayor noticia que jamás se contará: como los medios locales abandonaron sus puestos de contarnos la verdad.

Es un día triste para nuestra ciudad —excepto si eres rico y poderso—.
