The Journey is led by those directly impacted by the death penalty, including the wrongfully convicted, the families of death row inmates, and murder victim family members. The events this Saturday are a chance to hear their stories and energize the movement. This comes at a crucial time, as leaders including the Governor, House Speaker, and others have signaled discomfort with the death penalty.

Friday, October 11, 2019, 7:00 – 9:00 PM.  An Evening with Sr. Helen Prejean, CSJ.  Join us for an evening with Sr. Helen Prejean, CSJ.  Sr. Helen will discuss her new book and share her spiritual journey which led her to a life of helping others. The final page of her new book, River of Fire, is the first page of her first book, Dead Man Walking. Expect candid reflections of bringing light to some of the darkest places in the world, spiced with Cajun humor. Sr. Helen's books will be available at the event via partnership with Gramercy Books. A reception & book signing will follow the talk. Sunday, October 13, 2019, 4:00 – 6:00 PM.  Traveling Mercies:  Ohio Journey of Hope Send-Off Celebration.  Following a morning of Journey of Hope speakers speaking in communities of faith throughout Central Ohio, the community is invited to gather to pray and hear more inspiring "Voices of Experience" on the death penalty. Rev. Dr. Jack Sullivan Jr. will present the keynote address, sending Journey of Hope speakers off for a week of events throughout the State of Ohio.  The Ohio Journey of Hope is led by murder victim family members sharing their stories of healing, reconciliation, forgiveness and how the death penalty does not serve the needs of homicide survivors. The Ohio Journey offers "voices of experience" who can put a real face on the death penalty because they have lived some aspect of it. Speakers include murder victim family members, the families of the executed and those on death row, exonerated death row survivors, legal experts, and even retired corrections officials who have carried out executions and who now oppose the death penalty. Schools, faith communities and civic groups wishing to host a Journey of Hope speaker and foster this conversation locally are invited to make a request via the speaker request form at https://www.journeyofhope.org/ohio-journey/.  The Ohio Journey is presented in partnership with the Ohio Council of Churches, the Catholic Conference of Ohio, Faith in Public Life - Ohio, Ohioans to Stop Executions and others.
