Georgia state legislature

November 16, 2020

It is essential to the Biden administration that Democrats control the Senate.

For that to happen Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff must be elected to the U.S. Senate in the run-off in Georgia on January 5, 2021.

In the November 3rd election, Democrats lost one seat Doug Jones in Alabama and won two seats John Hickenlooper in Colorado and Mark Kelly in Arizona. But many Republican Senators won reelection. So, it appeared that Mitch McConnell would remain as Majority Leader of the Senate. That would make it impossible for the Biden administration to rescind many of the draconian laws passed during Trump’s administration and to pass progressive legislation, including that which is so necessary due to the pandemic. If the Democrats were to win one seat in Georgia, Charles Schumer would be Majority Leader. V. P. Kamala Harris would break the ties, since she will be the President of the Senate. If both Warnock and Ossoff win the two Georgia seats, Democrats will have an absolute majority.

The two Republican Senators from Georgia, Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue had been appointed to the Senate. On the November 3rd, election, neither of them got more than the 50% of the vote required by Georgia law to be reelected. Two Democratic candidates, Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff can win their seats by winning more than 50% of the votes in the January 5, 2021 run-off elections. Therefore, with luck, Democrats can control the Senate. Both Republican incumbent Senators are guilty of illegal insider trading while in office. Loeffler refuses to debate Warnock. Purdue and Ossoff had three debates scheduled. In the first debate, Ossoff called Purdue corrupt, among other true scathing remarks. Purdue did not respond. He cancelled the other two debates.

Mitch McConnell and the Republicans are flooding Georgia with dark money from unidentified wealthy patrons who expect favors. They admit that they have $100,000, but may use as much as $500,000 to run vicious attack ads which include calling Warnock anti-Semitic and Ossoff a racist, which are untrue.

Progressive activists nation-wide, should send political donations to Warnock and Ossoff, and encourage others to do so. I sent a donation to each, my limit. I encouraged a close wealthy relative to donate $1,000 to each.

Make out the check or credit card donation to Raphael Warnock for the U.S. Senate, and to Jon Ossoff for the U.S. Senate.
