Michael Vinson will be honored with the Demoratic Socialists of Central Ohio Eugene V. Debs Award for Political and Educational Advocacy on Monday, December 5, the Free Press and DSCO will honor local community activists at our 2016 Awards event from 7-9pm at The Hub, 1336 E. Main Street. 

After the murders of Michael Brown and John Crawford III, Michael Vinsonhelped organize an unsuccessful ballot initiative to establish a Citizens Review Board with subpoena power. He currently works as the lead organizer of the Economic Empowerment & Resistance Task Force. This grassroots organization provides community members with free education about Marxian and cooperative economics. As a member of the Democratic Socialist of America and the Franklin County Green Party Central Committee, he works to build community while projecting a revolutionary consciousness to the electoral wing of the progressive left . As a prison abolitionist, Michael joined the Free Ohio Movement and helped support the September 9 Nationwide Prison Strike. He currently organizes an anti-sexist reading group that uses a Black feminist perspective to explore community-based interventions to inter-personal violence that do not rely on the police or governmental institutions. Michael has participated in several social justice campaigns including one to stop an anti-BDS legislative effort called Ohio HB 476, a campaign to stop the privatization of OSU’s energy management system, an anti-fracking campaign to change the city charter and several demonstrations organized to protest police brutality.

Please join us ain honoring Michael Vinson t our Awards event, We ask for $10 at the door or $5 for low income, but no one will be turned away. We will have light refreshments, music and the awards ceremony.
