Details about event

Pint Size Protesters was created to give kids and their families a safe space in the Black Lives Matter movement, but also to support families with resources and opportunities to learn and grow so that we can truly bring about change.  Our mission is to organize, educate, and demonstrate with the goal of hosting monthly educational and family friendly protest activities.

We formed in early July and were invited to participate in Worthington’s “Why We March” rally where we staged a protest that was well received by the community!  This month, we kick off official Pint Size Protesters events with a lesson in racism featuring the book A Kids Book About Racism by Jelani Memory and our first protest, which took place in Dublin on 8/15.

Now onto September! With this being a very important election year, we thought it important to focus on voting and building the next generation of voters.  Thus Pint Size Protesters presents: “Why Voting Matters” was born:

Date: September 12, 11am - 3pm
Location: The Vanderelli Room (Private Yard Space), 218 McDowell St, Columbus, OH 43215

With this being a very important election year, the Pint Size Protesters are focusing on voting and building the next generation of voters!
This event, Why Voting Matters, is family friendly and will feature:

·      A facilitated exercise and lesson to simulate systemic racism

·      A kid-focused talk around the importance of voting lead by Morgan Harper, former candidate for Ohio's 3rd Congressional District

·      Q&A with elected officials, candidates, and voting rights activists, including: Morgan Harper, Crystal Lett, and Tina Maharath

·      Musical entertainment and string tribute to Elijah McClain

·      Food trucks, free treats and water dontated by Hydrohelpers LLC, and low-contact outdoor activities for families

·      Helpers available to register adults to vote and answer questions around absentee ballots

PLEASE NOTE:

·      Masks and social distancing are required.

·      This is an outdoor event and will take place rain or shine!

·      Bring your own chairs and/or blankets, as these will not be provided.

·      Hand sanitizer will be available to make sure we all stay safe and healthy!

In addition to the above program, we’ll have food trucks on site, free treats and water donated by Hydrohelpers LLC, and low contact, outdoor activities on hand for families to enjoy. And because voting matters, we'll also have people on hand to register adults to vote and answer questions around absentee ballots.
