Hands holding prison bars and words 13th

Saturday, August 19, 10am-1pm
First Unitarian Universaist Church, 93 W. Weisheimer Rd.
From National SURJ:

The events last weekend in Charlottesville have laid bare the true, vicious, and violent reality of white supremacy in this country. Our hearts and prayers are with the people of Charlottesville, with all those who put their bodies on the line to fight racist violence and hate, and with everyone - especially those from communities of color and our Jewish sisters and brothers - who experience violence and terror daily. We grieve for the loss of life, offer condolences to the families of those killed, and extend care to those in critical condition and others who were physically attacked and otherwise harmed.

We anticipate national calls to action this weekend and want to encourage everyone in our network to support or lead those actions and efforts. Because of this, we are postponing the national screening of The 13th. We apologize for this and want to make sure that we seize this moment to talk directly to the people in our communities and do everything possible to forward racial justice movements. SURJ National will be sending more information in the next few days about possible actions to take. We hope you will encourage those who were going to attend your local screening to take meaningful action this week and weekend.

Join Showing Up for Racial Justice Columbus and SURJ chapters all over the country for this screening of Ava Duvernay's film, "13th." This documentary film addresses the intersections of race, class, justice, and mass incarceration.

Following the film, we will livestream a panel that features:
Malkia Cyril, Executive Director of the Center for Media and Justice
Grace Bauer, Executive Director of Justice for Families
Matt McGorry, star of "Orange is the New Black" and "How to Get Away with Murder"
