Pussy Riot performed from the stage at the A+R Bar Sunday after making an announcement “Pussy Riots isn’t a punk band. Pussy Riot is a protest performance.”

This didn’t deter a woman wearing a Bikini Kill shirt standing next to me from proclaiming “Pussy Riot is the most Punk Rock thing I’ve ever watched.”

Pussy Riot were performing Riot Days, a musical piece which is a book and movie written by Pussy Riot’s Maria Alyokhina about her stint in Russian prisons for opposing Vladimir Putin.

In 2012, Pussy Riot performed their song, “Punk Prayer” in an Orthodox Russian Church. “Punk Prayer” isn’t sacrilegious with a King Diamond intent. “Punk Prayer” invites Catholic women to oppose Vladimir Putin.

At first you might question why would Putin respond if some band didn’t like him? Two hundred fifty people in Columbus, Ohio were at this show. I saw a woman wearing a La Tigre shirt. Even with a Diplo remix. I would assume Putin wouldn’t worry about the Riot Grrl movement disliking him.

Prior to Riot Days’ performance, Riot Day’s director took the stage. He said Putin’s disdain for Pussy Riot started with Pussy Riot spray painting a penis on a bridge which was outside of the KGB in Russia. I realized why Pussy Riot irritated Putin.

Russia’s Orthodox Church invited Pussy Riot to perform, these women who taunted Putin with vandalism. Imagine if a feminist group were invited into an evangelical Church in Ohio and requested the congregation oppose Trump on the basis of their spiritual beliefs. Pussy Riot had mocked Putin with graffiti and figured out a connection with the Russian Orthodox Church.

Riot Days’ director informed us Riot Days would be performed in Russian with the screen behind Pussy Riot showing English translations. We were watching a live foreign art film. The director reminded us that we were watching notorious political dissidents who were famous artists.

Pussy Riot are famous former political prisoners. Pussy Riot exhibited at places like Dietch Projects, and Saatachi. Pussy Riot’s movement worked with respected feminist artist Judy Chicago. Pussy Riot’s crass like community extends beyond music into Guy Debord situationist left-wing political pranks. Pussy Riot interrupted a world cup Soccer Game dressed as police officers as a protest of human right abuses in Russia. I’m sure Pussy Riot’s accomplishments include other stuff.

Riot Days started with introduction credits playing from a screen behind Pussy Riot’s Alina Pertova as she played a violin in front of a laptop. The combination of a violin with a laptop gave the intro sequence a low-rent, DIY art space quality.

Alina was joined by Marina Alekhina, Olga Boris Ovastrav, and Diana Burkot.

Women who were political prisoners for opposing Vladimir Putin were performing at the A+R Bar in Columbus, Ohio. Pussy Riot chanted proclamations and plots while singing the story of irritating Putin. After a serious introduction, Pussy Riot chanted, “Putin Peed Himself.”

Pussy Riot brought a straight faced intensity of women who opposed fascism while studying performance art.

After, we were taken into a backdrop of Russia and close captioned subtitles.

Pussy Riot’s backdrop spelled out “Putin Peed Himself”’ which endeared the Revs-Cost side of my graffiti palette which likes humorous typography..

Pussy Riot continued with their chants and singing about scaring Vladimir Putin.

Putin was scared of Pussy Riot because women who spray painted a dick in front of the KGB Headquarters were now welcomed by the Russian Orthodox Church.

Pussy Riot detailed Putin’s response of arresting them for political commentary. Pussy Riot then gave a 10 Crack Commandments-style list of instructions for survival if you are political dissident who's pissed off your governments leader. Pussy Riot left the stage for a second and returned wearing masks.

One of the commandments… hide your face.

Pussy Riot rapped in Russian.

I realized Pussy Riot are the dopest white female rappers ever.

Pussy Riot’s “Straight Outta Vagina” is on par with Ruthless Records, Terrie B.

Pussy Riot didn’t play “Straight Outta Vagina.”

Everything at Riot Days proved that “Straight Outta Vagina” was a Dead Milkman song was for the internet.

Riot Days wasn’t as kitchey or electroclash.

Riot Days’ performance worked for my Public Enemy sensibilities in presentation and sound.

Practical, Pussy Riot were rapping in Russian which kinda diffused the fear of an annoying accent from a white girl.

I contemplated Pussy Riots vandalism. Turk 182 with a bra-stap art school aesthetic. Pussy Riot had routines which sounded like they studied Cold Crush.

Pussy Riot’s stage presence, confidence and appearance bested Iggy Azalea’s attributes. Pussy Riot is doper than Dessa because the Riot Days foreign movie framing provides a classic structure.

While I’m declaring Pussy Riot’s vandalism, and rapping as the dopest white women rappers of all time….Pussy Riot are feminists and would want solidarity with other women.

I can’t remember ever watching four white women rap from a stage wearing masks about being political prisoners in Russia. One of Pussy Riot members dumped bottles of water on the energized crowd.

Pussy Riot resembled Odd Future Circa “Radicals.” Pussy Riot weren’t yelling about killing people. Pussy Riot were burning a stage down, and yelling “Fuck Putin.”

Pussy Riot were in prison for rapping in Church. The Russian Orthodox Church had supported them. Pussy Riot thanked Madonna for defending Pussy Riot and giving Pussy Riot a Russian show in protest of Putin’s political persecution.

We were at the A+R Bar watching women describe their hatred of Vladimir Putin, and demanding human rights for all people. Amnesty International had stage presence.

Pussy Riot climaxed and then finished the show with support for Ukraine. Pussy Riot announced that they were donating some of their merch sales for hospitalized children from Putin’s war of aggression.

I stood around and watched an entire room of people line up at Pussy Riot’s table.
