On Friday, August 16, at 4PM RAID will be holding a rally at the Ohio Statehouse to demand an end to ICE activity in Central Ohio and nationwide. We intend to use this rally to bring the public’s attention back to the detention of our immigrant community and demand freedom for those detained as well as an immediate cease to ICE raids and detention efforts.

We are Central Ohio grassroots activists dedicated to supporting immigrant communities affected by unethical detention of the state. Through direct action, community awareness, and support, we intend to keep our neighbors and community members safe from raids and deportation by abolishing ICE and closing the camps and detention centers.

For over 150 years, our government and business elites have been engaged in hostile political, economic, and military relations with countries around the world. The targeting and aggression towards Black and Brown undocumented peoples is deeply tied to US imperialism and white hegemony. Only through community support that builds unity around, for, and by those oppressed, and direct action aimed to dismantle the sociopolitical constructs that accompany such oppressive systems, can the liberation of immigrants be ultimately won.

As a community, we find the profiting of migrant detention by corporations like Chase, Amazon, and Time Warner unacceptable. We find the political capitalization of the conditions of migrant detention and their struggle unacceptable -namely  by politicians who have not offered any meaningful avenue towards dismantling these systems. The struggles faced by our immigrant communities are only challenged by forcing these politicians, businesses and society to become unworkable through acts of community solidarity working against current structures.
