On Saturday, December 21st, as the winter solstice brings us the darkest day of the year, a special event will light up hearts and minds with music, reflection, and community spirit. Hosted at the First Unitarian Church (93 W. Weisheimer Rd., Columbus) at 7:00 PM, From the Darkness to the Light is an uplifting concert in the spirit of Simply Living’s values of connection, peace, and sustainability.
This free concert (with a simple “pass-the-hat” offering) invites you to step into a candlelit sanctuary and experience an evening of timeless music and shared hope. Talented musicians will perform songs spanning the 1940s through the 1970s and beyond. Enjoy music that symbolizes love, justice, courage, and friendship. Think Pete Seeger, Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Carole King, and more: voices and melodies that have inspired generations of progress and positivity.
Bill Cohen leads the concert, and is joined by the harmonious voices of Joanne Blum and Joe Lambert, along with Ann Fisher’s soulful flute, the evening promises not only music but moments of reflection. With wise sayings about darkness and light, the concert will remind us that even in the darkest times, there is hope for renewal.
Support a Good CauseThis event also highlights an important cause: Food Rescue of Columbus. In keeping with Simply Living’s mission of living sustainably and compassionately, Food Rescue of Columbus reduces food waste by redistributing surplus food from restaurants and events to feed the hungry. Donations from the concert will be shared with this impactful initiative. Come out to ensure no food—and no community member—is left behind.
The solstice marks a turning point, a reminder that brighter days are ahead. Whether you’re seeking inspiration, community, or a moment of quiet reflection, From the Darkness to the Light offers all this and more. Bring your family and friends to celebrate a shared vision of peace, joy, and progress as we look forward to a brighter new year.
