Sign for Salt Fork State Park

Wednesday, October 15, at 9 a.m.
We will meet at 8:45 a.m. in the Statehouse Rotunda to gather and distribute small signs.
Then we will walk together to the hearing in Room 116 of the Ohio Statehouse shortly before 9 a.m.

he House Natural Resources Committee will hear sponsor testimony on House Bill 399 – a two-page bill that would ban oil and gas extraction from under Lake Erie or any Ohio state park.

The bill's co-sponsors, Tristan Rader (D-Lakewood) and Christine Cockley (D-Columbus), will testify. Although this is sponsor testimony only, it is important for us to show up to the hearing to let the committee members know we support HB 399, and that we want the committee chair to hold additional hearings.

Banning oil and gas extraction from under Lake Erie and our state parks is a no-brainer. Lake Erie is an irreplaceable resource, part of the Great Lakes system that holds 20% of the world’s fresh water.

Ohio state parks just won the 2025 National Gold Medal Award for Excellence, placing above Florida and Wyoming parks as the best in the country. They represent some of the few natural spaces left in a highly industrialized state, and are meant to be protected from oil and gas extraction.

We hope you can make it to witness democracy in action and show support for HB 399Please register by inserting your information in the upper right. That lets us contact you with any last minute changes of plan.

If anything, we would like to see HB 399 amended to cover all Ohio public lands, including wildlife areas – seven of which have already been leased for fracking.

But we thoroughly support HB 399, and hope you will join us in contacting the House Natural Resources Committee.

Tell the House Natural Resources Committee you support a ban on fracking state parks and Lake Erie

Thanks so much for your advocacy for Ohio’s state parks and public lands.
