Sawyer Fredericks

I hadn’t heard Sawyer Fredericks. I saw Sawyer’s farm strum was scheduled at Rhumba Cafe October 21st, 2025. The email said Sawyer Fredericks won on the Voice in 2015.  Pharrell coached Sawyer into victory.

I pondered. Pharrell brought us the Clipse. Pharrell produced NORE. I love Nothin, I love Drink Champs. “Homeboy I Came To Party. Your Girlfriend Was Looking At Me.”

I revisited The Clipse new record, Let God Sort Em Out. Which feature y’all like best: Kendrick, Nas or Tyler? I pressed play on Sawyer Fredierck’s newaest album…No Need To Wonder.

Pharrell wasn’t involved but Sawyer’s politics seemed correct. Sawyer Fredericks – I read online 11-14 million people watched season 8 of the Voice in 2015. I haven’t seen this show.

I watch Democracy Now, Fallon and Rick+Morty. I found Secrets Declassified with David Duchovny is fun because it’s like the real X-Files.

I love NORE. Sawyer Fredericks, I saw Pharrell was your coach for Season 8 of the Voice.  I like the Clipse, and Nore.

Are there suggestions Pharrell made which assisted your victory from the Voice?

Sawyer Fredericks: I don’t know about assisting my victory, but Pharrell was a very real person and that was very comforting for me at that time with being on a reality TV show. He just treated me like a fellow artist and was genuinely interested in my music and that was really helpful to me and made me feel heard.

You won season 8 of the voice in 2015. You were 16..

SF: Yes.

Where did you hear Neil Young? Where did you hear CCR?

SF: I heard Neil Young and CCR the first time from my dad. Actually, he listened to a lot of that kind of music so I heard it while I was growing up and CCR was a really big influence on my music, John Fogerty is absolutely amazing.

Your newest album is called No Need To Wonder. The email said No Need To Wonder is about environmentalism.

Please explain which songs?

SF: The songs on No Need To Wonder that are environmentally focused are “No Need To Wonder,” the title track, and “Mother.” “No Need To Wonder” focuses on how our society impacts the animals around us and our environment, whereas “Mother” is calling out people in power who are seemingly not caring about these issues or actively making things worse.

I still think it’s fascinating you knew who CCR were at the age of 16. CCR released a song called Susie Q. I drink at a pool hall called Susie Q in Columbus. Do you know why someone would name a pool hall Susie Q?

SF: Yeah, I know the song “Susie Q.”  My family actually had a dog named after that song, I’d always sing it while she was around. But I can’t say I know why someone would name a pool hall after that song.

I’m sure it was surreal singing with John Fogerty. I respect John Fogerty. I don’t understand Born On A Bayou. John Fogerty isn’t from Louisiana…

I saw you lived on a farm in upstate New York City. What type of farm?

SF: Yes, I grew up on a farm in upstate New York in the town of Glen which you wouldn’t know where that is because nobody really does haha, but we raise cows, we raise pigs, and we had chickens, as well as a donkey, and we have a garden that’s really just for ourselves.

I assume you played music on the farm. Did you play in a barn or a campfire?

SF: I played music all over the farm. I played around campfires, I played in the barn. I played in Silos really anywhere on the farm, I’ve played there, even the roof tops.

Your newest album is called No Need To Wonder. I read No Need To Wonder is about Social Justice.

SF: The new album No Need To Wonder has parts that focus on social injustice. The song “Funeral Parking Only” is about the housing crisis and people not being able to afford a home and just having to basically rent apartments for their entire lives. “Ain’t Ya Proud “is talking about various things in our country.
