The Ohio Power Siting Board approved construction of a proposed fracked gas power plant, which would be built right on Ohio State University's campus. but we can still stop the plant from being built. The next step to prevent a fracked gas plant from being built is to persuade new OSU President, Kristina Johnson, to support canceling the project.
Send a message to OSU President, Kristina Johnson urging her to cancel the proposed fracked gas plant on OSU's campus. Please take a moment to include a personal note about why it's important to you that OSU not build a fracked gas plant in the middle of campus.
If built, the fracked gas plant would be a significant source of new air pollution locally, where air pollution is already hurting people’s health. The air quality of Franklin County is already so polluted that the American Lung Association gave the air quality a grade of "F" in its 2019 State of the Air report.[1] The proximity of fossil fuel-burning plants has been associated with increased cases of asthma and higher rates of hospitalization for respiratory illnesses, as well as COVID-19.[2]
The plant would also contribute to climate change, perpetuate the harm from fracking in Appalachian Ohio, and undermine Columbus' plans to transition the city to 100% renewable energy by 2022.
Thousands OSU students, faculty, alumni, and Columbus residents spoke out against the plant at public hearings, in public comments, letters to the editor, and on social media. Let's keep the momentum going to stop OSU from building a fracked gas plant in the middle of campus.
Send a message to OSU President Kristina Johnson to protect the health of students, the OSU community, and the environment, and take action to stop this plant.
