We are launching a national campaign to recruit & develop 1,000 grassroots SURJ leaders who move 100,000 people to take sustained and meaningful action to protect the right to vote, and the integrity of the 2020 presidential election. We are looking for 200 Election Defenders to be the heartbeat of this campaign. The greatest tool against a fascist election contestation is through mass mobilization. We plan to mobilize our new and old base members to take mass action before, on the day of, and after the election until inauguration. Trump has threatened to postpone the election mis-information being spread about mail in voting, threats of postponing the election, and groundwork being laid to contest the election by calling mail-in voting fraudulent, and even placing an ally in the USPS who has recently told 42 states that there is a chance their mail in ballot won’t count because of the slow mail. This administration has shown fascist tendencies throughout Trump's presidency. His recent escalation of using federal Border Patrol agents in Portland and other communities across the country through Operation Legend, Operation Relentless Pursuit, and the executive order on protecting statues and federal buildings shows how serious the threat of authoritarian rule we are up against.
